In 1977, Carlos and Lorenzo Spadone bought the traditional Teatro Cómico from the descendants of Lola Membrives, an outstanding Argentinean actress (1888-1969). The theater was renamed Teatro Lola Membrives and the Spadones started a successful career in the production of shows.
In 1987 they bought theaters Lido, Astral and Neptuno, in Mar del Plata. They renewed the theater complex fully recycling it, modernizing entrances and incorporating the latest technical advances in sound and acoustics, light and air conditioning. Finally, close to the 1988 summer, the three theaters became two larger ones, plus a 25 store shopping center.
The new complex was opened with the staging of “Sugar”, a musical starring Susana Giménez, Ricardo Darín and Arturo Puig -among others- which had been very successful in Buenos Aires (Teatro Lola Membrives) between mid 1986 and the end of 1987.
In mid 1988, the Spadones acquired half of the shares of the company owning theaters Roxy and Radio City of Mar del Plata.
In 1991 they bought the Metropolitan cinema, situated on Buenos Aires's mythical Avenida Corrientes less than 100 meters away from the Lola Membrives. The Metropolitan was a huge cinema which, after being included in the Spadone Group's properties, was adapted as a building and technically to offer theater shows.
The Spadone´s decided to transform the Metropolitan completely: the complex was recycled and the cinema divided in two, respecting the original design of the building which was a great example of art deco architecture of the forties. Thus, theaters Metropolitan I and Metropolitan II were born.
In 1991, they bought the Tronador theater in Mar del Plata. The Group joined this new stage to the Lido, the Neptuno and its shopping center, becoming this the most important entertainment and culture pole in the city of Mar del Plata.
A new theater was recently opened next to the Tronador. It was named Sala Alberto Olmedo, in honor of the Argentine comediant.
The Spadone Group has a total of 9 theaters with a seating capacity of 8,400 people. This is the greatest number owned by a same managing group in the whole country.
